While some parents are content to use all-in-one diapers for all of their baby's needs, others prefer to have different solutions for different situations, or different times of the day. They may, for example, use all-in-ones for outings and during the night, and prefolds while they are at home. Still others will prefer the prefold diaper over all others and use them all the time.

Quality snap-on prefold diapers have a lot going for them. If you pick well, they should last for at least two different babies, even if you decide to use a diaper service. Remember that if you use a diaper service, they will be washed in an industrial washing machine, so inferior quality prefolds won't survive the experience. Fortunately, even the best prefold diapers are a lot less expensive than other types of diapers, so they're economical, too.

Blue Penguin's prefold cloth diapers are particularly practical. With their v-shaped row of snaps, they can grow with your baby so that you always have a perfect fit. They also have two layers of cloth; one a heavyweight terry and the other a softer, 100 percent cotton flannelette, designed to be worn next to the skin. These diapers come in two sizes: small, to fit babies up to 15 lbs., and large, for babies over 14 lbs. Blue Penguin also supplies hemp prefold diapers, which are not only super-soft and hardwearing, but they have natural antimicrobial properties, as well.

All prefold cloth diapers require a diaper cover. You will also need to wash them with fairly hot water and dry them in the dryer for best hygiene. However, some experts maintain that air drying in the sun is just as good as a dryer.
